ABOUT HILMA

Hilma – hönnun og handverk.

Which means Hilma – design and handcraft.

My name is Hilma Eiðsdóttir Bakken, I am Icelandic and a mother of two. A knitter with a masters degree in biotechnology. My grandma taught me when I was young and I have been knitting ever since. I started making my own designs as a teenager. I attended various craft courses, as I enjoy learning new techniques. After working in cell research for several years, my life took a U-turn and I decided to follow my heart into the world of design and handcraft. I signed up for a course to make a business plan and founded my one-woman company in June 2017.

Knitting, design and handcraft are my passion, that I don’t want to live without.

HILMA was founded on June 7th 2017. The main goal is to make haute couture products from Icelandic wool. HILMA products are made with knitting machines and hair pin lace crochet.

HILMA has recieved funding from various public funds in Iceland, such as: Vinnumálastofnun 2017, SSNV in may 2017 and Atvinnumál Kvenna in 2018 and 2019.
